Things got worse.
We're complaining fixing them.
Unshittification is a home for open source projects that rescue products that were perfectly good until somebody found a way to monetize your suffering.
A brief history of your favorite app getting worse
Writer Cory Doctorow coined enshittification in 2022 to describe how platforms decay. It caught on so hard it was named word of the year by the American Dialect Society (2023) and Macquarie Dictionary (2024), and became a book in 2025. We didn't invent the problem. We just have a domain name and opinions.
Be nice to users
Everything is fast, free, and delightful. You tell all your friends. You've never been happier.
Squeeze users for business customers
Ads appear. Features migrate behind a subscription. The thing you came for is now item four of six.
Squeeze everyone for shareholders
Now it's a pile of upsells with a faint memory of a product at the center. Please accept our new terms.
Our modest plan
Find something that got worse. Build the version that didn't. Give it away.
- 1Open source, always. If we can't hand you the source, we're doing the thing we're against.
- 2For the humans. No accounts you didn't ask for, no telemetry you didn't read about, no "Are you sure you want to leave?" guilt trips.
- 3Poke the bear, politely. We'll point at things that deserve pointing at, with receipts. We'll be funny. We'll be accurate. We'll be annoying only to the people paid to annoy you.
- 4Stay fixed. No pivots to "premium." If the project is good, it stays good. That's the whole gimmick.
Projects
The shelves are bare, because we literally just bought the domain. Here's what's moving in.
ClickGraft
A long-running fix for a printing experience that deserved better. It's migrating here, bringing its boxes and its strong opinions.

Know a product that used to be good? A setting that moved? A "free" tier that now costs a kidney? A submission form is coming. Until then, just stew quietly.
